Supporting Breast Cancer Awareness With ‘Think Pink

This October, in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Hospital Picaso is rolling out a month-long “Think Pink” campaign to raise awareness about the importance of early detection and prevention.

This initiative is designed to encourage mindfulness about breast cancer and inspire the public to engage in awareness activities, from attending educational events to donating.

Encik Ahmad Lutfi, General Manager of Hospital Picaso, emphasized that the “Think Pink” campaign is all about empowering the public with knowledge.

The hospital aims to educate the community on breast cancer prevention while promoting overall health and well-being. Through these efforts, the hospital hopes to foster a sense of care and support within the community.

Breast cancer remains the most prevalent cancer among women in Malaysia, accounting for 17.6% of all cancer diagnoses, according to the Malaysia National Cancer Registry (2017-2021). The incidence rate spikes for women aged 40 and above, highlighting the urgent need for awareness and regular screening.

Hospital Picaso’s three expert breast surgeons – Dr Normayah Kitan, Dr Ng Char Hong, and Professor Emeritus Dato’ Dr Yip Cheng Har – stress the importance of early detection, noting that survival rates are significantly higher when the disease is caught early. They strongly recommend monthly self-examinations and annual screenings for women.

One recent community event organized by Hospital Picaso was a fundraiser for the Breast Cancer Welfare Association (BCWA) called “Whisk for Wellness.”

The event combined a health talk with a fun baking session, raising funds to support breast cancer patients. Additionally, the hospital hosted a workshop that gathered over 80 medical professionals to discuss the latest advancements in breast cancer diagnosis and treatment.

To further engage the public, Hospital Picaso will host a one-day event on October 27, focusing on maintaining a healthy lifestyle and managing breast cancer.

Attendees can look forward to a breast cancer talk, free health screenings, and breast examinations. There will also be a yoga session and a matcha latte-making workshop. For just RM20, participants will receive a goodie bag that includes a yoga mat and a pink-compressed towel.

“Our commitment to fighting breast cancer extends beyond medical care. We aim to support women holistically – physically, mentally, and emotionally – at every stage of their journey,” said Lutfi.
