Eight New Private Hospitals Opened In Malaysia Past Two Years

Dzulkefly Ahmad says 8 new private hospitals across the country started operations in 2023-2024, including 4 in the Klang Valley (Selangor, KL, Putrajaya), 2 in Perak, and 1 each in Penang and Kedah. The 8 private hospitals have 146 specialists in total.

KUALA LUMPUR, August 6 — Eight new private hospitals began operations in Malaysia from 2023 to 2024, half of which are located in the Klang Valley, according to Health Minister Dzulkefly Ahmad.

The eight are Sunway Medical Centre Damansara (Petaling Jaya, Selangor), Hospital Picaso (Petaling Jaya, Selangor), Columbia Asia Hospital (Kuala Lumpur), Stella Kasih Medical Centre (Putrajaya), Seri Botani Hospital (Ipoh, Perak), Tunku Abdul Rahman University Hospital (Kampar, Perak), Northern Heart Hospital Penang (George Town, Penang), and Aurelius Hospital Alor Setar (Alor Setar, Kedah).

Seri Botani Hospital, Tunku Abdul Rahman University Hospital, and Columbia Asia Hospital began licensing in 2023, with the remaining hospitals starting licensing in 2024.

According to a July 28 written parliamentary reply by the health minister to Pasir Gudang MP Hassan Abdul Karim, Sunway Medical Centre Damansara had the highest number of specialist doctors at 52, comprising 36 visiting specialists and 16 resident specialists.

In total, the eight hospitals have 82 resident specialists and 64 visiting specialists, totalling 146.
