Hospital Picaso Hosts CME on Advances in Breast Imaging

Hospital Picaso successfully organised a Continuing Medical Education (CME) programme entitled “Advances in Breast Imaging: From Screening to Surgical Planning” on 18 July 2026, bringing together healthcare professionals to explore the latest developments in breast imaging and multidisciplinary breast cancer management.

The programme featured three expert speakers covering the continuum of breast care. Dr Maninderpal Kaur discussed the growing role of Contrast-Enhanced Mammography (CEM) in breast cancer detection, highlighting its expanding clinical applications. Dr Farhana Fadzli presented “From Mammography to Molecular Imaging: Navigating Modern Breast Imaging,” providing an overview of the strengths, limitations and appropriate indications for mammography, ultrasound, breast MRI and PET/CT, while also introducing emerging advances such as molecular imaging and artificial intelligence. Dr Ng Char Hong concluded the scientific programme by illustrating how imaging findings influence surgical planning and decision-making in breast cancer treatment.

The presentations emphasised the importance of selecting the most appropriate imaging modality for each patient, recognising that breast imaging techniques are complementary rather than competing technologies. Through case-based discussions, participants gained practical insights into current referral pathways, imaging strategies for high-risk women, management of dense breasts, and the role of advanced imaging in staging and monitoring treatment response.

An interactive panel discussion and question-and-answer session further reinforced the value of multidisciplinary collaboration between radiologists, breast surgeons and referring clinicians in delivering personalised, evidence-based care.

The CME highlighted Hospital Picaso’s commitment to continuous medical education and advancing breast cancer care by fostering knowledge sharing and collaboration among healthcare professionals. The event provided attendees with up-to-date clinical perspectives that will contribute to earlier diagnosis, more accurate treatment planning and improved patient outcomes.

She explains the different types of breast cancer, the role of mammography, ultrasound, MRI and contrast enhanced mammography in early detection, why dense breast tissue can make cancers more difficult to identify, recommended screening based on age and risk factors, and highlights the importance of seeking prompt medical attention for symptoms such as nipple discharge, persistent rashes or changes in the breast.
