New Medical Innovations In Battling Cancer In Malaysia

Expert doctors of Hospital Picaso showcasing a cutting-edge, minimally invasive therapy for patients with prostate cancer.
Hospital Picaso has introduced two advanced treatment options, Irreversible Electroporation (IRE) and Electrochemotherapy (ECT). The treatment aimed at improving outcomes for prostate, liver and pancreatic cancer patients in Malaysia.

A non-thermal ablation technique named IRE uses high-voltage electrical pulses to destroy cancer cells while sparing surrounding healthy tissue, making it suitable for tumours near delicate structures. “This technique gives us a targeted way to treat prostate cancer, while reducing damage to surrounding structures,” said Dato’ Dr Loh Chit Sin, Consultant Urologist at Hospital Picaso.
The hospital is also rolling out ECT, which combines short electrical pulses with localised chemotherapy to boost drug absorption into tumour cells, offering hope for patients with difficult-to-treat or previously unresponsive tumours in the liver and pancreas.
Dr Loh emphasised that while these innovations represent a major shift towards personalised and less invasive care, early detection remains key to improving survival rates and preserving quality of life.
