Malaysia is experiencing a growing demand for advanced surgery and integrated oncology treatment.

Meeting this need, Hospital Picaso in Petaling Jaya, Selangor, which has been operating since June 2024, recently celebrated its launch.

The event, graced by Yang di-Pertuan Besar Negri Sembilan Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Muna­wir, formally introduced its advanced facilities, technologies and multidisciplinary care model to the public and healthcare community.

Hospital Picaso medical director Datuk Dr Luqman Mazlan led a private tour for Tuanku Muhriz and shared the hospital’s vision to be a centre of excellence for advanced surgery and integrated oncology treatment.

The two centres of excellence at the hospital deliver treatment via the Urology Centre, Women’s Health Centre, Breast Centre, Gastrointestinal & Liver Centre, and Cancer Centre.

“At each centre is a team of senior consultants and key opinion leaders in their respective specialities and they collaborate across disciplines, ensuring that every treatment plan is coordinated, personalised and delivered with continuity of care,” said Dr Luqman.

The collaborative approach improves patient outcomes especially in cancer, endometriosis and for patients with multiple health issues.

Hospital Picaso is located in Petaling Jaya.

Hospital Picaso clinical practice chairman Datuk Dr Loh Chit Sin showcased the hospital’s array of advanced surgical technologies including Koelis, a precision-gui­ded robotic system for prostate procedures; the Da Vinci Xi robo­tic surgical systems used for minimally invasive operations; and the NanoKnife System, an advan­ced non-thermal ablation technology for tumour treatment.

Dr Loh said the hospital’s comprehensive treatment options eliminated the need for patients to seek treatment abroad.

The launch featured a symbolic ribbon-cutting ceremony by Tuanku Muhriz using the Da Vinci Xi robotic surgical system.

In his speech, Dr Loh said, “While clinical care is at the core of what we do, we also recognise the need to build capacity to train, to share knowledge and to grow the next generation of specialists.

“Our goal is to contribute to Malaysia’s position as a regional leader in minimally invasive and robotic surgery.

“By investing in education and training, we ensure that the progress made today continues to benefit patients for many years to come”.

Since opening its doors on June 19 last year, Hospital Picaso has achieved a series of national milestones that showed commitment to being a centre of excellence for oncology and advanced surgery.

Dr Loh said Hospital Picaso recorded the highest number of robotic surgeries in Malaysia in its first year of operations and performed Malaysia’s first Nano­Knife procedure for prostate cancer and the country’s first scarless robotic-­assisted VNotes surgery for endometrial cancer.

Also present at the launch were Petaling Jaya MP Lee Chean Chung and Bukit Gasing assemblyman Rajiv Rishyakaran, Asia OneHealthcare managing director and group chief executive officer Dr Chan Boon Kheng, Quill Group of Com­panies group executive director Datuk Michael Ong Leng Chun and group managing director Datuk Dr Jennifer Low Moi Ing.
