A Friday evening may be a time to unwind after a busy week, but at Hospital Picaso, it became an evening of meaningful conversations about breast health, early breast cancer detection, treatment options and the patient journey.

Hospital Picaso welcomed our media partners for Inside Her Story, a breast cancer media dialogue and networking dinner that brought together our breast cancer specialists to share insights into the different stages of a woman's breast cancer journey — from understanding changes in breast health and the importance of early detection to personalised treatment and multidisciplinary care.

Bringing Breast Care Together Under One Roof

The evening began with opening remarks by Professor Emeritus Dato’ Dr Yip Cheng Har, Consultant Breast Surgeon, who shared the vision behind establishing a one-stop Breast Centre where women can access different aspects of breast cancer care within one location.

“A woman who finds a lump can spend months being passed between a clinic, an imaging centre, a laboratory and a hospital. Every one of those handovers is a place where a frightened woman can fall out and never come back. This model removes those handovers.”

Launched in 2024, the one-stop Breast Centre brings together a multidisciplinary breast care team comprising:

By bringing different breast cancer specialists together, the Breast Centre aims to make the patient's journey more coordinated, connected and centred around her individual needs.

Her Story: Every Breast Cancer Journey Is Different

Following the opening remarks, the consultants were invited to light the box, symbolising the beginning of the Inside Her Story experience.

The immersive experience featured three educational stations, each representing a different stage of the breast cancer journey. Together, they explored a simple but important message: every woman's breast cancer story is different, and every woman deserves care that is tailored to her.

Early Detection Can Make a Difference

Led by Dr Normayah Kitan and Dr Farhana Fadzli, the first station highlighted the importance of breast health awareness and early breast cancer detection.

Knowing what is normal for your breasts and seeking medical attention when you notice a persistent or unusual change can support earlier assessment and diagnosis. Regular breast health checks and appropriate screening can also help detect some breast cancers before symptoms appear.

Breast Cancer Treatment Is Personal

The second station, led by Dr Harjit Kaur, explored how breast cancer treatment is increasingly personalised.

Breast cancer is not one single disease, and treatment depends on factors such as the cancer type, stage and individual circumstances. Treatment may include surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, targeted therapy or hormone therapy.

For some women, breast-conserving surgery may be an option. Each treatment plan is tailored to the woman's diagnosis and needs.

A Multidisciplinary Team Behind Every Treatment Plan

Dr Ng Char Hong and Dr Christina Lai highlighted the importance of multidisciplinary breast cancer care.

At Hospital Picaso, breast surgeons, radiologists, pathologists and oncologists come together through regular multidisciplinary team discussions to review cases and develop a coordinated treatment approach.

By bringing different specialists together, the team can consider the full picture of each diagnosis and work towards a treatment plan tailored to the patient.

Behind Her, There Is a Team

Every woman is unique, and every breast cancer journey tells a different story.

Behind her is a team of specialists working together to support her through every step — from breast health assessment and diagnosis to treatment and ongoing care.

Breast health awareness and early detection remain important. If you notice a new or unusual breast change, such as a lump, change in breast shape or size, skin changes or unusual nipple discharge, speak to a healthcare professional for an appropriate assessment.

At Hospital Picaso, we offer women's health and breast care packages designed to support women's health screening and breast health needs.
