Your Rights
The care you receive
You have the right to:
- Receive courteous, respectful, and sensitive care in a safe environment, regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, nationality, religion, disability, or personal, cultural, or spiritual beliefs and preferences.
- Be treated with dignity and compassion, with due regard for your privacy, safety, and comfort.
- Receive explanations of your care and treatment in a language you understand.
- Request interpreter services with advance notice (fees may apply).
- Be informed of the identities and roles of individuals involved in your care.
- Request a chaperone during any type of examination.
Respect for the decisions of your treatment
You have the right to:
- Be informed of your health status, treatment options, and available alternatives.
- Receive proper pain assessment and management, and take part in decisions regarding your pain care.
- Have your personal and medical information treated with confidentiality, in accordance with applicable laws.
- Request or refuse treatment, as permitted by law. However, you may not demand treatment that is medically unnecessary, inappropriate, nor decline essential care deemed necessary for your safety under your care plan.
- Request discharge from hospital after counselling and by signing a "Discharge at Own Risk" form.
- Seek a second opinion from another consultant within the hospital, with the knowledge of your primary doctor. The hospital will assist with the referral process.
Access to care and services
You have the right to:
- Provide written informed consent before any non-emergency procedure.
- Receive care in an environment free from abuse, neglect, or mistreatment.
- Have visitors or caretakers during your stay, except in restricted areas such as critical care units.
- Request a medical report from your doctor (subject to a fee).
- Grant or refuse consent for recordings, photographs, or images, except when used for identification, diagnosis, or treatment purposes.
- Receive a detailed explanation of your hospital bill and obtain a copy upon payment.
Your Responsibilities
You are expected to:
- Provide complete and accurate personal details, including name, address, contact information, date of birth, insurance, and employer details, where applicable.
- Provide accurate information about your health, including current conditions, past illnesses, hospitalisations, medications, allergies, and any perceived risks.
- Speak up and ask questions when you do not understand any aspect of your care. If you are unable to follow the recommended treatment plan, inform your doctor. You are accountable for the consequences of non-compliance.
- Inform your healthcare provider if you are a registered organ donor or intend to register as one.
- Follow Hospital Picaso's rules, regulations and policies regarding patient care and conduct.
- Treat Hospital Picaso's facilities and equipment with care and avoid misuse.
- Show courtesy and respect to hospital staff, patients, and visitors. Be mindful of noise levels, privacy, and the number of visitors accompanying you.
- Bring only essential items for your stay and avoid bringing valuables.
- Attend all appointments, arrive on time, and notify the hospital if you are unable to attend.
- Fulfil your financial obligations by paying hospital bills in a timely manner.
